Standards Institutes and Inspection Bodies

Standard is a document that specifies the requirements, specifications, guidelines, and characteristics of a material, product, process, or service to meet specific objectives. Standards, based on their scope, have five levels: factory, company (societal), national, regional, and international.
Factory standard is developed by a factory for internal use. National standard is prepared by the standards institute of each country according to the economic, social, scientific, and technical conditions of that country. Regional standard is developed by member countries of a specific regional agreement, such as the European Committee for Standardization. International standard is prepared by relevant organizations for global applicability, such as the standards of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO), headquartered in Geneva, was established on 24 February 1947 with the aim of harmonizing standard development worldwide, facilitating international trade, supporting producers and consumers, and promoting scientific, technical, and economic cooperation. Currently, this organization has 163 member countries, including 113 full members, 46 correspondent members, and 4 joint members. The Institute of Standards and Industrial Research of Iran is a full member of ISO and participates in the development of international standards.
Razi Metallurgy Research Center, as the first collaborating laboratory of the National Standards Organization of Iran in the field of materials engineering, has extensive and close cooperation with this institute and participates in the development of national standards. Inspecting and reviewing imported and exported goods, evaluating their compliance with national and international standards, and providing quality control reports of products are among the activities of this center in the field of standards.
