Standard calibration samples for optical emission spectrometers (OES), commonly known as spectrometers or quantometers, are used for instrument setup and calibration. These samples must have a highly homogeneous chemical composition with minimal segregation of alloying elements. These samples are produced by casting. Since casting can lead to chemical segregation and compositional non-uniformity, the manufacturing technology must ensure that the resulting samples are sufficiently homogeneous and uniform. Razi Metallurgy Research Center began producing these reference samples domestically in 2003, becoming the first and only manufacturer of such samples in Iran at that time. In 2016 and 2017, the Center also registered patents for the production of standard ferrous and non-ferrous samples. The range of alloys produced has since expanded significantly, covering a wide variety of industrial alloys, including carbon steels, stainless steels, manganese steels, gray and ductile cast irons, Ni-Hard and Ni-Resist cast irons, brasses, bronzes, aluminum alloys, zinc-based alloys, and superalloys. The manufactured samples undergo analysis using various advanced analytical methods. After their chemical composition and structure have been evaluated, and the accuracy and homogeneity of their chemical composition have been verified, a certificate is issued for each sample. Production is carried out using medium-frequency induction furnaces with capacities of 5 and 25 kg, as well as a 5 kg vacuum melting and casting furnace. Electromagnetic stirring and specially designed molds are also used in the manufacturing process.
